Description





We are currently recruiting for two Elevator Inspector positions. If you wish to be considered for both positions, you must submit separate applications for each.



This position will function in a "work from home" environment and will work in Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington counties. The location of this position will be discussed at the interview and finalized when the job offer is made.

The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombudsmen to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses.



This position is with the Building Codes Division (BCD). BCD adopts and enforces the statewide building code relating to the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures and the installation of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices and equipment.



This position is represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union (AFSCME).





Duties & Responsibilities





The successful candidate will inspect elevators, escalators and other mechanical devices of the elevator industry for compliance with safety standards; investigate safety issues; enforce regulations and safety standards; stop operations of unsafe installations; and provide technical information to the industry.

Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



+ Three years as a journey-level elevator mechanic installing, repairing, and maintaining elevators or escalators;



OR



+ Three years inspecting elevators;



OR



+ Possession of a current American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Qualification of Elevator Inspector (QEI) or QEI Supervisor Certification.






NOTE: The successful candidate is required to obtain the state elevator inspector certification within 30 days of hire.

DRIVING RECORD CHECK

The successful candidate will have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Note: Prior to an offer of employment, DCBS may request that you provide an official driving record.



Requirements of a satisfactory driving record:

A driver having a satisfactory driving record is defined as a driver who has not been convicted or forfeited bail for any of the following offenses and infractions:



+ A major traffic offense in the last 24 months (examples include reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failing to perform the duties of a driver, criminal driving while suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and others),

+ A felony revocation of driving privileges, or felony or misdemeanor conviction resulting in driver license suspension within the last 24 months,

+ Three or more Class B traffic violations in the last 12 months,

+ A careless driving conviction in the last 12 months,

+ A Class A moving violation in the last 12 months (Class A is the most serious level of violation, e.g. going 30 miles over the speed limit).








CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK

Employment will be contingent upon the passing of a fingerprint-based criminal background check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically disqualify an individual from being considered for employment.



SPECIAL INFORMATION



+ Inspectors walk through, climb over, and crawl under structures while making inspections; involves occasional lifting and exertion for short periods

+ Travel daily by motor vehicle to inspection sites within assigned geographical areas

+ Exposed to hazardous weather conditions and building construction job sites and to hazardous locations, including extreme heights

+ Encounters occasional situations with the industry involving frustration, antagonism, and anxiety
