### Summary
Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 (Title 25, USC, Section 472). ### Responsibilities
* Perform Wildland fire related duties involve fire prevention, patrol, detection or prescribed burning.
* Performs assignments as a wildland firefighter in developing a working knowledge of fire suppression and fuels management techniques, practices and terminology.
* Searches out and extinguishes burning materials by moving dirt, applying water by hose or backpack pump, etc.
* Patrols fireline to locate and extinguish embers, flareups and hotspot fires that may threaten developed firelines.
* Cleans, reconditions and stores fire tools and equipment.
* Participates in fire and safety training in the techniques, practices and methods of fire suppression and in the safe, efficient operation and use of tools, equipment and vehicles used in fireline activities.

Occasional travel - Work may require travel by light fixed-wing or rotor-wing aircraft.

### Qualifications
**EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:**(OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for One-Grade Interval Technical or Medical Support Positions, and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0462: Forestry Technician Series).
**GS-3:** 6 months of general experience OR successful completion of 1 year of study that included at least 6 semester hours in a combination of courses such as range management or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or physical sciences OR 2 seasons of experience.
**GENERAL EXPERIENCE:** (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience may be substituted for general experience.
**SEASONAL EXPERIENCE:** A season of experience is considered to be a period of no less than 3 months of continuous employment on a seasonal basis. Shorter periods may be combined to make a season, provided a total of at least 3 months' experience is shown. For any period where the work exceeded 3 months, the excess work is credited towards an additional season of experience can be evidenced by:
* Forestry aide or technician work.
* Engineering, range, or soil conservation technician work that involved the application of cultural, resource conservation, or land management practices on nonforest or ranch lands when combined with knowledge of forestry operations and equipment.
* Farming or ranching work that involved application of cultural and soil and water conservation practices, including safety and use of equipment, and that provided a basic understanding of land use.
* Forest or range fire control, prevention, or suppression work.

Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.**
