We are seeking applicants for the role of SOCIAL SERVICE ASSISTANT. Our ideal candidates will possess a passion for working in the field of child welfare and social services.

We are seeking applicants for the role of SOCIAL SERVICE ASSISTANT (SSA). Our ideal candidates will possess a passion for working in the field of child welfare and social services and will support Child Welfare Case Workers in providing services to children and families.

Duties fall into 2 job categories and are a general summary and not all inclusive:


Visitation Coordinator



+ Supervises visitation between children, parents and family members in an office setting or in a community setting.

+ Transports children to visits, health, social services or other agency related appointments as required.

+ Gathers and documents information from the caseworker, children, parents, relatives, case providers, schools and other resources to plan visits, including the schedule, location, supervision level and safety plan.

+ Meets with clients, family members and caregivers to review visitation agreements and guidelines; provides clear visitation expectations and maintains safety of the visitation environment.

+ Documents accurate information and visitation observations in the agency's electronic data system.

+ Collaborates with the caseworker to assess level and location of visit supervision on an on-going basis.

+ Maintains a high degree of professionalism in the community, with clients, schools, courts and with referring agencies.

+ Provides testimony in court regarding visitation observations, experiences and other applicable information.









Case Aid

The case aide provides administrative support to case carrying Social Service Specialists through coordinating and performing duties including but not limited to:



+ Assists caseworkers with administrative duties, including but not limited to case notes, documentation and information gathering.

+ Gathers information from collateral contacts, input into the agency's electronic data system.

+ Contacts relatives for the purposes of absent parent search, placement, visitation, or identification of safety service provider.

+ Ensures children in substitute care meet the timelines for medical, dental, mental health, and CANS assessments.

+ Completes funding requests and service requests.

+ Completes service referrals for families and foster parents, including all requisite and subsequent tasks and contacts.

+ Assist families with completion of required forms and coordination of appointments.

+ Completes packets for BRS and other alternative placement options for children as applicable.

+ Conducts face to face contacts not to exceed one every 3 months or 4 per year on an assigned case.

+ Assists with transportation as necessary.

+ Provides limited visitation supervision coverage.

+ Provides testimony in court regarding visitation observations, experiences and other applicable information.













WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is done in office and field, including client homes. Families served include mandated clients who may be hostile and resistant. Travel is required. You must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.



Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills




THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY:


One year experience assisting professionals in one or more specialized social programs such as family services, children services, senior services, mental or developmental disability services, substance abuse programs, juvenile corrections programs, or occupational skills programs; OR


Possession of a current certification in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Addiction Counseling Preparation, or Juvenile Corrections; OR


45 quarter hours, or 30 semester hours of college course work in sociology, psychology, early childhood education, criminal justice, human services, juvenile corrections, or occupational skills training; OR


An Associate's degree in a field not closely related to Social Work/Human Services; AND Six months of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, mental or physical disabilities, juvenile prevention, health, cultural competencies, and/or inadequate housing).


REQUESTED SKILLS




+ Engagement skills with emphasis on communicating with unmotivated or unwilling clients, de-escalating hostile situations, and engaging with children and adults.

+ Resilience to traumatic information including an understanding of positive self-care.

+ Ability to work as part of a team in a support role

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel or other database software programs

+ Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, service providers, and clients in person, over the telephone, and in writing respecting cultural and ethnic differences.

+ Strong organizational skills including multi-tasking and prioritization of work

+ Flexible schedule that allows for overtime or schedule adjustments as needed.

+ Research skills that would support knowledge of policy, procedure, statute, and local branch protocols
